On July 24, 2024, Norfolk Southern Railroad reported the theft of iron pilings for use in bridge repairs within the City of Picayune. Officers and detectives from the Picayune Police Department quickly identified two suspects: Wyatt Ethan Mitchell and Carla Lee Mitchell.

The mother-son team was arrested within 24 hours of the theft and charged with grand larceny.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to ensure the stolen materials are recovered and used for their intended purpose.
