In a targeted operation, detectives from the Picayune Police Department Special Operations Division executed a search warrant on November 21, 2023, at 1623 Rosa Street. The operation, part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking, resulted in the arrest of Perry Burnett on charges of aggravated trafficking of a controlled substance and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
The search warrant, backed by evidence gathered during the ongoing investigation, uncovered a significant amount of illegal narcotics. Perry Burnett was apprehended during the operation, and authorities seized an aggravated trafficking quantity of cocaine, including crack cocaine. The enforcement action also led to the confiscation of a substantial amount of U.S. currency and various items believed to be acquired through illicit narcotics activities.
To be charged with aggravated trafficking, the quantity of the illegal controlled substance must be 200 grams or more. The amount recovered during this operation exceeded this threshold, underscoring the severity of the charges against Burnett.
Chief of Police Joe Quave emphasized the department’s commitment to combating drug offenses in the community. “We have added more officers to the Special Operations Division to investigate drug offenses,” said Chief Quave. “It has been a tough time to be a drug dealer in Picayune lately, and we aim to keep it that way. We have an eager group of officers in that division who have no problem taking the time and effort to make our streets safer. If anyone knows of people selling drugs in our community, be a part of the solution and let us know.”
The arrest and successful execution of the search warrant underscore the Picayune Police Department’s proactive approach to tackling drug-related crime. The increased workforce in the Special Operations Division reflects the department’s dedication to maintaining the safety and well-being of the community by targeting those engaged in illegal drug activities. Authorities encourage residents to collaborate with law enforcement by reporting any information related to drug offenses for a safer Picayune.
