Walter Lee Bush, Jr. “Lee” of Picayune Mississippi, passed away on June 5, 2018 at the age of 76.
Mr. Bush was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Walter, Sr. and Mary (Madich) Bush on September 6, 1941. Due to his mother’s illness, Lee lived in St. Vincent’s Orphanage in Baltimore under the loving care of Sr. Marie until age 4.
Mr. Bush entered St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore at age 17, receiving a degree in Philosophy before leaving the seminary. He continued his education at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, receiving a Masters of Arts degree, then an Education Specialist degree from William and Mary College, Williamsburg, Virginia.
He was an Administrator and Assistant Superintendent of Gloucester Public Schools; Administrator at West Bend High School in Virginia; Professor of Education at Towson University in Baltimore; and after retiring to Picayune, Mississippi in 2010, was an instructor at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
Lee was a member of the Mississippi Chapter of Circle of Trust, a volunteer at Margaret Reed Crosby Memorial Library in Picayune, and attended St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
He is survived by two sons, Jeremy Bush (Wendy) of Hamilton, Virginia and Mark Bush (Laura) of Sebastopol, California, and grandchildren, Ethan, Amethyst, and Davis Bush; a brother, Retired Rear Admiral Tom Bush (Bebe) of Bradenton, Florida, and a sister, Mary Jane Bush of Buxton, Maine. He will be remembered fondly by many beloved nieces and nephews, grateful students, and a host of friends in many communities.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Charles Borromeo Church Friday, June 8, 2018 at 10 a.m. with visitation at 9:30.
Celebrant will be Rev. John Noone. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting Lee’s love of learning with a donation to the Margaret Reed Crosby Memorial Library, 900 Goodyear Blvd, Picayune, Mississippi 39466.
