Continued discussion regarding development of a county courthouse annex took place during Monday’s Pearl River County Board of Supervisors meeting.
During the meeting, Troy Johnston from Butler Snow law firm suggested the Board adopt two resolutions.
The first resolution was to establish a general obligation bond not to exceed $12 million with the Mississippi Development Bank. The amount will be paid over 25 years at an interest rate not exceeding 4 percent, Johnston said.
The second resolution was to issue a general obligation bond to build the courthouse annex and related facilities.
The Board approved a motion to adopt both resolutions.
In other matters, County Engineer Les Dungan provided the Board with an update regarding countywide bridge replacement projects.
Dungan said the bridge on Lakeside Drive currently supported by timber pilings needs to be replaced and recommended the Board replace the bridge using funds from the Local System Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation Project.
Dungan said because the cost of replacing bridges on Nellie Burkes Road and Sones Chapel Road were completed under budget, the county has $150,000 in LSBP funds available.
Dungan estimates replacing the bridge on Lakeside Drive will cost about $200,000. He recommended the Board use the remaining LSBP funds and use local funds to cover the difference.
Dungan said the replacement of two bridges on Progress Silver Run Road are now complete and both sites are open to traffic. Pavement of the bridges is expected to take place in a week or two, he said.
The next Board meeting will be June 20 at 9 a.m. in the courthouse on Julia Street.
