More than a half dozen senior citizens have found their new home at BeeHive Homes in Picayune.

With construction of the facility at 4000 Wildwood Dr. in the city complete, it opened its doors to those eight residents about two weeks ago, said owner Lance Newman.

Newman is also the owner of a BeeHive Homes in Brookhaven, Miss. The retirement homes are described as a second home, with care and amenities that create an inviting atmosphere.

Inside is a large kitchen where the staff chef prepares three meals per day for the residents. Each of the 15 rooms has a full bathroom attached for an increased level of privacy. With the bathroom included, Newman said each room measures 15×21.

In the back of the facility is a sunroom, screened in porch and raised flowerbeds.

A large dining room is adjacent to the kitchen, and a roomy living room provides all the space the residents will need to socialize, watch television or just relax. Residents can also look their best through the services offered at the in-house salon.

Newman said the 9,000-square-foot facility can house up to 16 senior citizens, which would include one couple.

Another feature the facility offers is individualized care provided by BeeHive Homes’ staff, such as dietician approved meals, administration of medication and assistance with a resident’s daily needs, such as getting dressed.

“We are considered a residential home that can assist with daily living activities,” Newman said. 

The Picayune location is capable of employing up to 12 people, but currently employs about half that number. Newman said the number of staff is determined by the number of residents, but the aim is to provide near one-on-one care.

While there are no immediate plans to expand the Picayune location, Newman said that if the need arises he can build a similar facility next to the existing one, but that would depend on the response from the community.
