Two adolescent males were arrested for their alleged involvement in breaking into a coin laundry business to steal change that was used to purchase cigarettes. 

Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said the crime was reported Saturday morning at the business, located at 3351 Jackson Landing Road. The complainant told responding deputies that he closed the business the night before at 10, but came back the next morning at 8 to find that a window had been broken.

Investigation into the crime determined that two male juveniles, aged 12 and 13, allegedly used rocks to break the glass door at about 11 the night before, after which they entered the business and used a screw driver to pry open a change box on one of the dryers. Inside, the boys found $3 in change, which was later used to purchase cigarettes from a neighboring store, Tucker said.

Sgt. Joe Quave took over the investigation and was able to identify the suspects and confirm their involvement using investigative techniques. Once he found the juveniles, he spoke with their parents and contacted the Pearl River County Youth Court, who ultimately decided to charge them with commercial burglary and placed ankle monitors on the suspects for the time being.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the glass to the door of the business remained broken.
