Pearl River County Relay for Life is selling its second cookbook for $25 a copy as part of the organization’s annual fundraiser.
The book, entitled “Hope for the Holiday and Everyday,” is a compilation of submitted recipes from across Mississippi.
Lisa Lee, Relay for Life member who also compiled the book, said proceeds from the sale of the book will be given to the American Cancer Society’s Gertrude C. Ford Hope Lodge, set to open in Jackson, Miss. in 2019.
The Lodge is expected to provide free housing for cancer patients and their caregivers, Lee said.
She said the book features several recipes for holidays and was initially scheduled to publish during last Christmas.
Lee said the recipes are enough to entice people to purchase the book.
“Food is a way to connect with people we love,” Lee said.
She said the book is dedicated to anyone who helps shapes people’s lives by providing good food.
The first cookbook titled “Mississippi Relay Recipes,” published in 2014 and raised $45,000, which was donated to the American Cancer Society, Lee said.
There are 1,000 copies of the latest book on sale. Relay for Life representatives have so far raised $5,000 and expect to raise more.
“We hope by sharing our favorite recipes people will be thankful to people important in their lives,” Lee said.
Copies of the book can be purchased at Bank Plus, Katy Cakes and Highland Community Hospital.
