The Pearl River County SPCA will be having its annual wellness clinic Saturday, April 21.

The clinic gives pet owners in the community an opportunity to give their pets the vaccinations they need. According to previous coverage, the wellness clinic has been taking place since 2003 and has gone from helping 75 pet owners in its first year to over 400 in 2015.

PRC SPCA Public Relations Manager Maria Diamond said the event will begin at 10 a.m. at Jack Read Park and last until the last pet in line has received its shots.

“Animals can get a rabies shot, they can also get microchip or they can receive any other vaccinations that they need,” Diamond said.

Rabies shot will have a cost of $8 and a microchip will be $10. Both can be purchased together at a $2 discount. Dog and cat vaccinations will be available for $8 each, bordetella shots will also cost $8 and puppy and kitten series shots will available for $30.

Diamond said the shots will be administered by Dr. Ann Borgen from Mill Creek Veterinary Clinic.

“Over the last couple of years, we have had a lot of people come out to our wellness clinic and this year should not be any different,” Diamond said.

Animals who receive a rabies shot will given a certificate as proof that they have received the preventative within the last year.

Diamond said all animals should either be in a leash or in a carrier. If a pet is antisocial, the veterinarian will come to the owner’s vehicle and administer the shot from there.

“Our goal is to make shots affordable to the community. There’s a lot of bad things that can happen to person’s pet if they don’t get vaccinated,” Diamond said.
