PRC’s softball team sweeps Pass Christian; face Lady Tide Tuesday night

Pearl River Central’s softball team defeated Pass Christian 11-1 and 9-1 in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
The first game came to an end after five innings. Head Coach Tony LaBella said the Lady Devils (8-1) scored one run in the first, three in the second, five in the third, one in the fourth and one in the fifth. The Lady Pirates scored their lone run in the fourth inning. Jayden Davis batted 3-for-4, hit a three-run homerun to left field and had five RBIs. Madison Gower was 1-for-1 with a triple and an RBI and Jade Latham and Shelby Archer each went 1-for-2 and had one RBI each.
On the mound, Jayden Davis pitched a complete game, allowing two hits and one run while striking out four batters.
During the second game of the day, PRC took a 7-1 lead after two innings of play. The Lady Devils went on to score one run in the third and fourth inning. The game ended after six innings.
For PRC, Gower batted 1-for-2 with a homerun and had three RBIs, Jade Latham and Maddi Glidewell each went 2-for-3 and combined for four RBIs. Brienne Penton, Archer and Taylor Kauzlarich were each 1-for-2 at the plate. Latham pitched the entire game for the Lady Devils. She allowed zero hits, one run and struck out 12 batters.
PRC softball’s team will be back in action Tuesday when the team will play its first district game of the season against Picayune at Kristi Mitchell Field. The junior varsity game will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity teams will take the field afterwards.
“We expect it to be tight game Tuesday and Picayune is a good team and even though we’re playing well at the moment, we must continue to execute well on both sides of the ball in order to have a chance to win,” LaBella said.
