A report of shoplifting led to the officer discovering the female suspect was in possession of controlled substances, while  a separate incident concerning suspicious people walking in a parking lot off of Memorial Boulevard early in the morning led to the arrest of one individual for drug related charges.

Officers with the Picayune Police Department were sent to a local retailer on Nov. 22, at about 2:39 p.m. due to a suspect being detained for allegedly shoplifting close to $50 in merchandise, including bibs, burp pads, makeup and a bed sheet.

The officer arrived and spoke with the store employee, who had detained Jill Nicole Miller, 39 of 108 Fred Strain Rd., Carriere.

A search of her person and belongings found she was in possession of a dosage of suboxone, Xanax and lorazepam, leading to her arrest for shoplifting and three counts of possession of a controlled substance, the report states.

In a separate incident, departmental reports state officers were sent to the parking lot near the local Taco Bell on Dec. 2 just before 2 a.m. in reference to three suspicious people in the area.

When the officer arrived, only one person was found at the scene, later identified as Joshua Akiam Nixon, 27, of 803 Weems St., the report states.

The officer conducted a pat down of Nixon, finding a glass pipe with a burnt residue, a plastic bag containing a substance suspected to be marijuana, another plastic bag containing a substance suspected to be methamphetamine and two other bags containing a white rock like substance and pink powder like substance that were sent off to a lab for analysis, the report states.

Nixon was arrested for possession of paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and possession of methamphetamine and the unidentified substances were secured in an evidence locker, the report states.
