Several offices in Pearl River County are closing due to the inclement weather.
Coast Electric is closing their offices at noon to ensure their customers and employees remain safe, said April Lollar with Coast Electric.
City of Picayune government offices are also closing at noon.
Pearl River Community College has announced that classes for the rest of the day Friday are now cancelled.
Picayune Police Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri said the department has worked about a dozen accidents before noon today. He advises anyone who does not have to be on the roads, to stay home.
Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said deputies have responded to more than 60 accidents before noon on Friday.
Road Crews in the city are in the process of salting and sanding bridges. Magri said that it appears as though ice is already accumulating on the Beech Street bridge over the Hobolochitto Creek and the bridge on Highway 43 North.
Extra manpower has been called in to handle the increased call load at the Police Department.
