Meet the Picayune Item’s newest sports/news writer

My name is Victor Tun and I’m the newest sports/news reporter for the Picayune Item. I was born in Guatemala and lived there until I moved to the state of Georgia in 2005.
I relocated to the Picayune community from Cartersville, Georgia, which is a town about 35 minutes from downtown Atlanta.
I attended Georgia State University in Atlanta my first two years of college and then transferred to Kennesaw State University, in Kennesaw, Georgia, where I graduated this past May with a bachelor’s in journalism and citizen media.
My passion for sports started at an early age when my parents got me involved in as many athletic activities as possible. Some of the sports that I participated in were cross-country, basketball and soccer. During my free time, I also learned how to play tennis, baseball and golf.
During college, I volunteered as a soccer coach for a non-profit organization, so sports has always been a part of my life one way or another.
Like anyone else, I have certain teams that I support day-in and day-out, but the franchise I’ve supported the longest are the Atlanta Braves.
Growing up, the Braves were one of the best teams in Major League Baseball because it will be remembered as the ‘team of the ‘90’s.’ Well, my dad worked for a company that received free gear from the Braves, so I was always wearing a Braves hat, shirt, jacket or even shoes.
I’m a big fan of food, as I’ll never say no to free food. I don’t think I have a favorite meal but I always enjoy a good burger.
This is my first adventure in the state of Mississippi, as I have never been here before, and I hope to make the most out of it and meet many of you during my daily endeavors.
