Picayune Main Street to hold special social event

Thursday, 18 shops in the Picayune Main Street area will offer special deals, drawings and refreshments as part of the Main Street Social event. Some of the special discounts include 50 percent off certain items.
Reba Beebe, Picayune Main Street director, suggested shoppers make their purchases early in the day because many other events are going to be taking place in conjunction with the downtown social.
“We have a lot of things planned Thursday and are excited to see everyone out and about taking advantage of these unbelievable deals,” Beebe said.
Three ribbon cuttings will take place in Picayune that day, including Shades of the Past at 4:30 p.m.; The Painted Mantel at 5 p.m.; and MJP Shoes at 5:30 p.m.
“This is a unique time for our downtown area,” Beebe said.
At 6 p.m., a members only social packed with events will take place at Southern Char. Robin Veerkamp and Susie Wilson will be revealing the 2017 collectible Christmas ornament design during the social.
“This year, they went above and beyond on the design. This is going to be one of the best, if not the best, ornaments yet,” Beebe said.
Valarie Livengood will be selling the Pearl River County historical site coloring book by Hometown Treasure Creations during the members only social event at Southern Char. The book features historic landmarks throughout the county. Also, Walmart Manager Jason Matthews will present Picayune Main Street with a $1,000 grant at Southern Char, which Beebe said will go toward helping the community, and City Manager Jim Luke will be signing and distributing his new book “Murder Under Boley Creek Bridge.”
To wrap up the social meeting at Southern Char, all participating members will have the chance to show off their singing talents through karaoke.
Anyone interested in becoming a member of Picayune Main Street can fill out an application at the Intermodal and Tourist Center of Picayune, located at 200 Highway 11 South.
