One man’s love of music gave him the desire to start his own business.
Now retired, previously Tavie Perez was a building inspector, working in the New Orleans area ensuring electrical, mechanical, plumbing and building codes were met.
For a time he was also a stage hand with the Local 39 in New Orleans where he and a team of others set the stage for musical productions. He has also had formal training in the art of music production. Perez attended classes at the Audio Institute of America where he received a diploma in Recording Engineering and Music Production.
About 20 years ago he started Tavie Productions LLC, which provides him an outlet to express himself through music. By utilizing modern technology, he captures the sounds of live instruments to create tracks, and then uses those tracks to mix a song, either for himself, or for clients.
When asked to nail down a genre for the music he creates, he said there isn’t one, since he utilizes aspects of music from the 50s, 70s, gospel and country. A self-professed music lover, he recently started performing at Scooter’s in Poplarville.
His recording studio, situated in a large room in his home just outside of Poplarville, includes all of the instruments one would need to create music. Guitars, drums, a mixing board and large speakers line the walls of the studio.
Upon request, customers ask Perez to hire local musicians to come to the studio and record some tracks for their own use. The customer can let Perez know what key they plan to sing in, and he can tune the music to match that key. Once the music is what the customer asked for, he burns a copy on a compact disk for their use. However, Perez said he usually only gets one or two requests per year from local singers and musicians to record their original work.
While most of what Perez does under Tavie Productions LLC is perform his own music at various venues, he said he could provide karaoke, and play music at events such as weddings and parties if a customer was interested.
