Golf tournament set for next Friday

The Greater Picayune Area Chamber of Commerce is holding their annual 3-person scramble golf tournament on Friday, June 17.
The tournament will be played at Millbrook Golf and Country Club and is sponsored by Silver Slipper Casino Hotel.
“There are so many activities to enjoy and you could even win a F-150 truck. This event is truly an exciting one,” said the Chairman of the golf tournament committee Ray Hart.
The golf tournament is a best ball 3-person scramble, meaning there will be three players to a team and the teams play the best ball hit each time, Hart said.
Prizes are awarded to teams placing first, second and third. The prize for first place is $225, second place is $150, and third place is $75. Each prizewinner from the top three teams will also get a $25 gift card to Dick’s Sporting Goods.
Prizes will be given for making a hole-in-one.
“The best part about the tournament is the prizes. There are four par-3 holes on the golf course and each of those holes has a certain award if someone were to hit a hole-in-one,” said Hart. “I know people think this is an almost impossible feat but I have seen it happen before. It’s one of those things that can very well happen to anyone.”
The prizes for the holes-in-one are: Ford F-150 truck, donated by Herring Ford, a 2016 ExMark Zero Turn E Series 52 inch cut riding lawn mower with suspension and platform, a set of Taylor made Rocket Bladez HL irons 4-AW, and a set of Adams Speedline woods and irons with bag. Samples Western Auto is donating the two sets of clubs and the riding lawn mower.
Other competitions include the longest drive and closest-to-the-pin contests. The winner of each contest will receive a $100 prize.
“Silver Slipper is coming to create a bunch of excitement. Besides the tournament, there will be a big wheel that everyone spins to potentially win a prize as well as a silent auction and great give-a-ways,” said Hart.
Hart expects to have 20-25 teams participate in the tournament.
The entry fee is $75 per golfer and $225 per team, Hart said, and includes golf cart access, lunch and a T-shirt. Lunch starts at noon and is provided by Fatty’s Seafood restaurant. After that, the tee-offs begin, Hart said.
A portion of the proceeds from all the contests and events will go to the Arc of Pearl River County, a non-profit organization that helps mentally challenged adults.
“The Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to come down and participate. You do not have to be good at golf to join and the event is going towards a great cause,” said Greater Picayune Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Nuria Arias.
To register, go to the Chamber of Commerce’s website and download the application or mail it in along with the entry fee payable to the Picayune Chamber of Commerce 101 N. Main Street, Picayune, MS 39466.
