Last week, members of two local civic organizations, the Rotary Club of Picayune and the Kiwanis Club of Greater Picayune Area hosted fishing rodeos for special needs students in the Picayune and Pearl River County School Districts.
For many years, both of these clubs hosted these events, which are enjoyed by all who attend.
It was wonderful to see the joyful expressions on the faces of the children when they caught fish.
It’s a day officials said students look forward to from the first day of school.
Not only do Kiwanians host this rodeo, but they also host the yearly Special Olympics event, which is open to all special needs individuals throughout Pearl River County. During Friday’s event, Kiwanians donated money to the Pearl River County School District, which will be used to purchase audio equipment for the hearing impaired.
These great events allow students to spend a day away from school having fun with groups of people who raise money to provide them with fun activities.
It’s important to value individuals with special needs in our community.
However, there are numerous lessons we can learn from the.
We can all learn a thing or two about how to treat each other just by observing their interactions.
Their sincerity and appreciation for the volunteers who host these types of events is genuine.
The Item applauds members of Rotary and Kiwanis for their continued dedication to the individuals with special needs that reside in Pearl River County.
