This Saturday and Sunday, the Pearl River County Arts League will host their 42nd annual Spring Art Show and would like to invite the public to take a peek into the creative minds of some of Pearl River County’s most talented artists.
According to league history, the first art competition was held in conjunction with the Gulf South Fair on Oct. 23, 1972.
Each year, contestants ranging in age from PreK to senior citizens submit their art entries in the hope of placing in their respective category.
This year’s pieces will be judged by Pass Christian watercolorist Mae Niolet. She is a retired professor of art from Delgado Community College in New Orleans, her biography states. She works in watercolor, colored pencil and mixed media and her artwork depicts the natural landscapes and environments of Louisiana and coastal Mississippi. Her work can be viewed at Gallery 782 in Biloxi.
Many works of art will be on display from various categories including acrylic, oil, watercolor, mixed media, woodcarving, pottery, photography and segmented wood, PRC Arts League president Gail Sheasby said.
A raffle will also be held during the art show to benefit the league’s Margaret Dawsey Scholarship Fund, which is awarded to an art student each year, Sheasby said. Two pieces of art will be raffled off.
The show will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Picayune Knights of Columbus Hall, located at 408 Carroll St.
