Friday, Pearl River County Emergency Management Director and Fire Services Coordinator Danny Manley confirmed that two tornados did hit Pearl River County during Tuesday’s severe weather.
The first tornado started in Henleyfield and ended in Derby, Manley said. It was 9.7 miles long and 150 yards wide with winds of 105 mph. It was classified as an EF1 tornado, he said.
The second tornado hit in Ford’s Creek, Manley said. It was 2.5 miles long and 70 yards wide with winds of 90 mph. It was also classified as an EF1 tornado, he said.
The assessment was completed by Manley and representatives from the National Weather Service.
“We matched damage from this week’s storm against previous damage images and radar imaging,” Manley said. “We also looked for the direction of the damage. If roofing material is blown to the northeast and trees fell back towards the southwest, that shows an obvious rotation.”
According to previous Item coverage, 15 mobile homes and houses received minor damage and three homes received major damage.
“There were no injuries or deaths associated with the storm,” Manley said. “And no one was left homeless.”
