Investigators with the Picayune Police Department are looking for a suspect involved in a commercial burglary that occurred earlier this week at Shabby Chic, located at 505 S. Main St.
Officers responded to the shop on Jan. 27 at 9:17 a.m. after receiving a call from the owner who said her business was burglarized, Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri said.
The complainant stated the burglary most likely occurred sometime after hours between Jan. 26 at 5 p.m. and Jan. 27 at 9 a.m. Upon entering the business that morning, the complainant told officers the shop was in complete disarray, as if someone had broken into the business—the cash register was lying open on the floor with loose miscellaneous change around it, Magri said.
The complainant said they don’t leave cash inside the register after business hours, so the suspect, whose identity remains unknown, wasn’t able to steal any cash, Magri said.
Three items were stolen from the shop including, a Dell desktop tower, a Dell wireless keyboard and a Dell monitor with a total value of approximately $2,500, Magri said.
Later that day, all three items were recovered by Picayune police officers after they received notification that the items were seen near the edge of the woods at the 200 block of Weems Street, Magri said.
Initial investigation shows that the unknown suspect could have entered the shop through an air conditioning duct, Magri said.
If anyone has any information regarding the suspect’s identity or whereabouts, they are asked to call the Picayune Police Department at 601-798-7411 or Crime Stoppers at 601-799-2583.
