Funeral services for Wilbert Bridges, 63 will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthews Baptist Church. Pastor Dr. Michael Kelley will officiate.
Wilbert Bridges was born Februay 13, 1952 in Picayune, Miss. to late Lillie Mae Jackson Bridges and the late Howard Bridges.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at St. Matthew Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Jessie James.
Wilbert graduated from George Washington Carver High School and immediately became a member of the United Sates Army. Upon his return, he became a longtime resident of Pontiac, MI where he was an employee for Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Pontiac Motors. Due to the closing of the Automobile Industry, he returned to Picayune where his career continued with Mason Chamberlain (Stennis Space Center) and Crosby Chemical Company while he continued his studies at Pearl River Community College in Hazardous Chemicals.
He was always telling jokes and cutting up on the dance floor. He was a good husband, brother, and friend.
Wilbert departed this life on December 29, 2015 and was preceded in death by his mother Lillie Mae Jackson Bridges; father, Howard Bridges; one sister, Alene Goff; and one brother, Freddie Stockstill.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory a devoted wife, Myra Bridges; sisters, Deloris Judge, Margaret (Larry) Charles, and Gloria Bridges; one brother, Jerome Jackson; sisters in-law, Mary Simmons, Susan Stockstill, Elizabeth Stewart, and Gayle Jackson; a faithful caregiver, Samatha Hart; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Interment will be in the Picayune Cemetery.
