Professional development plan discussed

Kimberly Alford, who is the curriculum and professional development director for Pearl River County School District, discussed a plan to improve teachers and administrators at Monday’s Pearl River County School Board meeting.
The Pearl River County Professional Learning Plan aims to implement high-quality, standards-based professional learning that will build capacity for teachers and administrators to implement new curricula and increase student achievement, according to the mission statement.
“The Pearl River County School district instructional leadership team, as well as the school leadership team, continuously reviews needs assessment data from teacher observations, state test data, common assessment data, and survey data to identify areas in need of professional learning opportunities,” Alford said.
Pearl River Central High School Athletic Director Andy Kivlan announced that presale tickets for Friday’s varsity football game against Picayune will go on sale Tuesday for $6. The following week, PRC will host a playoff game against the number 4 seed out of region 3. Tickets will be $7 and be available for sale on Nov. 12. Only state season passes will be accepted for the playoff game.
Kivlan also announced that the PRC girls’ cross country team won their district.
Five of the the Lady Devils placed on the all region team. The boys’ team placed fourth in districts and had one boy on the all region team.
The PRC NJROTC will have a Veterans Day ceremony at 9 a.m. on Friday at the PRC’s Hendrix Stadium. Gates open at 8:30 a.m. and the ceremony will last until 10:30 a.m.
The attendance figures were handed out for the month of September. PRCHS had 94.22 percent attendance, PRCMS had 95.47 percent attendance, PRCLE had 96.63 percent attendance, PRCUE had 95.13 percent attendance and PRCSD had 95.28 percent attendance.
The board’s next scheduled meeting will be Dec. 7 at the PRC boardroom in Carriere.
