On Nov. 6 the Pearl River County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will put on an animal adoption and neuter coupon event from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at C-Spire in Picayune.
Carla Gerrard, the special projects director for the Pearl River County SPCA, said adoptions will be held right in front of the building and they will have a table where they will be selling the coupons.
“Were gonna bring puppies and some adult dogs. All of the animals will have their applicable shots. They will be spayed, neutered and microchipped. They will also have their rabies vaccination, if applicable,” Gerrard said. “Just come, fill out the paperwork and you will receive a bag of food, you can get the remainder of the booster shots at the SPCA animal shelter in Picayune.”
The PRCSPCA has people come from far and wide to adopt from them.
“We have had a man come from Anchorage, Alaska to adopt two kittens. We have a couple from Texas who adopts regularly from us and a vet from Louisiana who speaks very highly of the PRCSPCA,” Gerrard said.
If people are not able to come by the event, they can also view adoptable pets via the group’s website, PRCSPCA.org, or go to their office which is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and located on Palestine Road.
They also give the adopter 30 days of free insurance on their new pet should anything happen to the animal and the adopter has the option of continuing it, Gerrard said.
Neuter coupons will be on sale as well. They cost $10 for male dog and $5 for a male cat. The coupons are limited to just male cats and dogs, Gerrard said. To obtain a coupon, you must be a resident of Pearl River County and you must bring identification or a bill with your address, Gerrard said.
“We have contracts with vets and vet clinics and on that coupon your animal will get scheduled on that coupon and the coupon is good for six months,” said Connie Freeman, volunteer coordinator for Pearl River County SPCA.
