Community members can purchase seafood platters today for a good cause. Young members within the 4-H Clover Club will host a fundraiser in order to attend 4-H Day at the Mississippi State Fair in Jackson this October.

Pat Jones, volunteer leader of the 4-H Clover Club, encourages the community to come out and support the local club.

“This fish fry not only raises funds for our club but helps our members learn how to give back to the community,” Jones said.

The catfish platters cost $8 per plate and include potato salad, green beans, bread and dessert. The fundraiser will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the pavilion next to Ramey’s Market on Poplarville’s Main Street, Jones said.

The 4-H Clover Club is part of the Pearl River County 4-H Club, which helps young people develop important life skills, including leadership, responsibility and friendship through the Mississippi State University Extension Service.

Alex Shook, MSU County Extension agent, said the county’s 4-H Club offers a variety of clubs for young people between the ages of 5 and 18.

Shook said the 4-H Clover Club is a community club that “focuses on developing leadership skills.”

“The Pearl River County 4-H strives to engage youth in projects where we can teach young people life skills and help them reach their potential,” Shook said.

Jones hopes the money raised will help fund the club’s future educational trips. For now, the club plans to attend 4-H Day at the Mississippi State Fair, which allows 4-H members across the state to view exhibits and take part in 4-H activities such as a public speaking contest, clothing contests and entomology activities.
