On July 23, deputies with the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to Riverside Drive in Carriere, in reference to a report of a male screaming in the woods.
Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said at about 7 p.m. that day, deputies responded to the area. There was also an earlier report of screaming in the woods, Tucker said.
Upon arrival, deputies entered the wooded area and found what appeared to be a deceased male lying on his back, Tucker said.
Deputies notified emergency officials with AAA Ambulance, who pronounced the male deceased and notified the coroner, Tucker said.
Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage said the man was identified as 24-year-old Douglas Slade Skipper of 25 Homestead Dr., Carriere.
An autopsy was performed at the State of Mississippi Medical Examiner’s Office where cause of death will be determined on a toxicology test conducted, Turnage said.
“At this time, we don’t suspect foul play,” Turnage said.
Tucker said the case is being worked as a death investigation and is currently an open case.
