PRC school board discusses budget

The Pearl River County School Board held their monthly meeting Monday night.
Prior to the school board meeting, business administrator T.J. Burleson presented the board with a budget hearing.
During the presentation, Burleson stated that PRC’s MAEP funding went up by $1.1 million in the 2014-2015 school year.
Burleson also talked about some projects PRC will be working on this summer which include spending $40,000 to asphalt the upper elementary parking lot, a $50,000 intercom/telephone system and the $800,000 bleacher project. PRC’s estimated fund balance for next year is $4.9 million.
PRC will be hosting a public budget hearing on Monday, June 29th at 5:30.
Stephanie Morris, a member of the district wide attendance team, spoke at the meeting about PRC’s attendance numbers for the 2014-2015 school year compared to the 2013- 2014 school year. For this school year, PRC decreased unexcused absences district-wide by 1,326. The number of students with perfect attendance this year increased district-wide by 23 when compared to the 2013-2014 school year.
The board approved several items on the agenda Monday night including the purchase of a new 2016 Ford Transit 350 through state contract pricing for a total of $29,470.
The board also approved a contract with JI Luke Enterprises to provide janitorial, maintenance and grounds services effective July 2015 through June 2018.
Jim Luke was in attendance Monday night and said that his company has enjoyed working with PRC over the last 15 years and looks forward to their continued partnership.
