Members of the Picayune Separate Municipal School District board of trustees took a moment to recognize one of their students for his achievements in the automotive program during Tuesday’s meeting.
The student, Jacob Petitfils, has excelled in the Career and Technology Center’s automotive program, said instructor Leo Raverty.
Raverty said his student recently took a test provided by the Mississippi Department of Education. His high ranking results on that test may mean a scholarship to Pearl River Community College in his pursuit of a two year automotive technician degree.
Raverty said Petitfils passed every aspect of the test, which is the same the local community college uses to determine eligibility for their program.
The test focused on eight areas of automotive maintenance, including automatic and manual transmissions, electrical, engine repair, brake systems, and heating and air conditioning.
Petitfils said he plans to attend PRCC to receive his degree as an automotive technician. Raverty expects the college to offer Petitfils a full scholarship to do so.
In other business the board:
— Accepted a $500 donation from Picayune Petroleum for use at the district’s high school and Career and Technology Center.
— Approved the purchase of books for Roseland Park Elementary using a $45,000 literacy grant.
The next board meeting will be March 10.
