Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday closings

Local government offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 19 in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
County Administrator Adrain Lumpkin said Martin Luther King Day is a state holiday so all county offices will be closed until 8 a.m. Tuesday.
While the city of Picayune offices will also be closed on Monday, there will be no change in the garbage collection schedule throughout the week. According to the city of Picayune Public Works Department, residents of Pearl River County who usually have their trash picked up on Monday will still have their trash collected despite the holiday.
The city of Poplarville offices and the Poplarville Area Chamber of Commerce will be closed for Martin Luther King Day.
U.S. Post Offices throughout the county will also be closed Monday.
A number of local drug stores will be open during the holiday. Picayune Drug Company, Fred’s West Side Pharmacy, City Rexall Drugs and Medical Center Pharmacy will all be open for their normal business hours. CVS, Walgreen’s and Rite Aid stores and pharmacies will be open for their normal hours as well.
Winn-Dixie and Claiborne Hill grocery stores will be open for their standard business hours.
The Senior Center of South Pearl River County and the Greater Picayune Area Chamber of Commerce will be closed on Monday.
Wal-Mart will remain open for 24 hours throughout the holiday.
First responders throughout the county will be on call and available in case of an emergency situation.
