On Tuesday, a local man was arrested after running away from local law enforcement last week.
Last week, the man, identified as 39-year-old Rodney Wayne Smith of 1374 John Amacker Road in Poplarville, broke his parole, which was for the conviction of drug charges, with the Mississippi Department of Corrections after he took off his ankle bracelet during house arrest, Tucker said.
The Department of Corrections was quickly notified of the breach after receiving an alert from the ankle bracelet.
Last Tuesday, MDOC contacted the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department and informed them of Smith’s possible location in Carriere. When investigators arrived at the home, Smith fled from the scene and went missing, Tucker said.
Yesterday, Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department narcotic investigators, along with the U.S. Marshal Service and Hancock County Sheriff’s Department located Smith just inside Hancock County, Tucker said.
The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department charged Smith with escape. Smith is currently in the custody of the Pearl River County Sheriff Department.
