Norma Kleinfeld loves to travel, and even though she’s been all over the world, she still wants to see more. She spent time in Costa Rica earlier this year, and is currently planning a February trip to Tucson, Ariz. to attend one of the biggest gem and mineral shows in the world.
It’s a passion that has helped make her business one of the premier places for unique gifts and home furnishings in South Mississippi. When Kleinfeld travels, she often comes home with interesting items to sell in her store, which is a part of the reason why Crystal Gallery in Picayune has an inventory unlike any other.
“Ninety percent of what you see in the store has been picked individually, not ordered,” said Kleinfeld, “We went out and got it.”
Crystal Gallery features a diverse selection of pieces from all over the world. Upon entering the store, there is a glass case of hand-carved Russian items to the right, and an amethyst geode containing 30,000 carats of amethyst straight ahead. The gallery features hand-carved furniture, as well as quality aluminum benches.
After perusing the collection of jewelry, furniture and decorative items in the front of the store, customers can walk down a hallway lined with museum quality mirrors to find three separate rooms full of more intricate pieces. From fine glassware to aluminum punch bowls and decorative sword sets, Crystal Gallery seems to have something for everyone.
“The name has actually kind of hurt us in the past,” said Katie Jarrell, store manager and Kleinfeld’s daughter, “We offer way more than just crystal work.”

Jarrell has kept the books for her mother’s business since they opened in November 1993. For a store with such a large selection of pieces, the displays are well organized and appealing. The well organized store is now beautifully decorated for Christmas.
Kleinfeld said it was her husband’s admiration of her decorating abilities that planted the seed for opening Crystal Gallery years ago. A mother to six children, Kleinfeld put a lot of effort into making their Christmas tree look special. After her husband commented that it was a shame no one else could see the decorations, she got the idea to have a store that could showcase her skills. Her hobby turned into a business, and more than 20 years later, Crystal Gallery stills features an elaborate Christmas display in the front window of their store – a decorative holiday scene that lights up at night.
Jarrell said that while Crystal Gallery is a business that offers quality pieces at affordable prices, her mother’s focus isn’t solely on turning a profit.
“I believe my mother keeps this shop going as a sincere service to the community,” said Jarrell.
