Fun at the festival

I enjoy a good festival, especially when the weather is cool and there’s a light breeze in the air.
There’s nothing quite like enjoying a cool drink or a steaming cup of coffee while perusing quaint shops, listening to live music and enjoying local cuisine.
My first introduction to Picayune and Poplarville was when my parents brought me to the Fall Street and Blueberry festivals years ago.
There were a few festivals in Hancock County from time to time years ago, but I cannot remember any comparing to the ones held here.
It was during these festivals that I was first introduced to the Frostop’s roast beef po-boys, Mickle’s Pickles and the many delicious ways to utilize blueberries.
I remember walking up and down Canal Street with my family and just thinking to myself, “What a quaint place with nice people and great little shops.”
There are many benefits to having a yearly festival.
It provides a great opportunity for local lesser-known artists to display their works of art.
One of the best things about a festival is that the money stays local.
The residents are not only shopping, but also visitors from other parts of the state or country.
Many people come to this area specifically for the yearly festivals and some will find themselves planning a visit back at different times of the year.
Weather outlets are reporting that the weather will be sunny and cool for this weekend’s Fall Street Festival in Picayune.
That will provide the perfect atmosphere to meet and greet old and new friends, check out artwork of the area’s most talented artists, try a new food, dance and sing to live music or find a unique gift for that special someone on your Christmas list.
The Street Festival will be held in downtown Picayune this Sat., Nov. 1 and Sun., Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
