The accolades continue to roll in for unbeaten Picayune. The defending Class 5A state champion Maroon Tide, 8-0 on the season and winners of 15 straight games, cracked the Super 25 Poll in The USA Today Monday afternoon. It is the first time in 25 years that Picayune has been ranked in the prestigious national prep football poll. The Maroon Tide is also rated as the unanimous number one prep team overall in all three primary polls in the state of Mississippi. The Maroon Tide is coming off a 48-7 win over East Central, a win that also clinched a playoff berth for Picayune. The only Super 25 team to lose last week was then-No. 25 Dwyer (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.), which fell to Atlantic (Delray, Fla.) on Thursday. Picayune moved in at 24 and dropped Narbonne High (Harbor City, Cal.) back down to 25th from 24th. Picayune hosts Long Beach on Friday.
