Ellisville will vote Tuesday on whether to allow the sale of beer in the city limits.
It’s a contentious issue in the small town just as it has been in other Mississippi city’s that have recently rolled back alcohol bans.
Gordon Wright, who spearheaded the petition presented to the Board of Aldermen earlier this year, said alcohol is need to lure franchised restaurants.
Opponents say they like things they way they are.
City Clerk Kathy Brewer said the matter will be settled Tuesday when voters cast ballots on whether to allow the sale of beer or any beverage with no more than 5 percent of alcohol.
Brewer said at least 50 percent of votes plus one must favor the issue for it to pass.
