Lady Hornets win again

Poplarville took a big step towards yet another district championship Tuesday night,
The Lady Hornets smacked visiting Vancleave 13-0 in Region 8-4A action, moving to a perfect 4-0 in league play.
The Lady Hornets remain in league action on Thursday, as they travel to Leakesville to face Greene County.
With a win Thursday, Poplarville will secure its fifth consecutive league title.
“That’s always a goal every year, to win the division,” veteran Lady Hornets head coach Jonathan Ray, whose team is 11-7 overall, said. “It’s all about getting in the playoffs and then hopefully making a run.”
Sam Gentry picked up the win Tuesday night, and also slapped a double at the plate. Miranda Fazande drove in three runs in the win, and Rachel Hickman added a home run. Branda Northrop also had a double as well.
The Lady Hornets lost three games in the Meridian Tournament over the weekend.
• This weekend, the Lady Hornets will host the annual Pete Jackson Tournament.
Six teams, including Picayune and the host Lady Hornets, will compete in the one day event on Saturday. There will be seven games, beginning at 11 a.m., with Picayune and Poplarville each playing three games.
The highlight of the day will be the rubber match of the season between the Lady Hornets and Lady Tide. The Pearl River County rivals, who split two games earlier in the year, are slated to play the last game of the day. The schedule is as follows:
11:00 — Poplarville vs. Enterprise
12:15 — George County vs. Enterprise
1:30 — George Co. vs. West Lauderdale
2:45 — Picayune vs. Enterprise
4:00 — Picayune vs. West Lauderdale
5:15 — Poplarville vs. West Laud.
6:30 — Poplarville vs. Picayune
