Two dollar stores robbed on same night

Picayune Police investigators are looking into two alleged burglaries that occurred on the same night and are believed to have been conducted by the same suspect, or suspects.
Deputy Chief David Ervin said both burglaries took place on Dec. 10, sometime between closing that Monday and before opening the following day. Both the Dollar General on the north side of town and the Family Dollar near Claiborne Hill were burglarized in the same night, Ervin said. Money from the registers’ tills and safes was taken during the robberies, he said.
Both stores were entered in such a way that patrolling officers would not suspect a robbery was in progress. Ervin said entry to the Dollar General was gained through the roof while entry to the Family Dollar was gained through an air conditioning enclosure that was later resealed.
A surveillance system installed in the Dollar General was circumvented by the suspect or suspects cutting wires to the system during the burglary, Ervin said. The deputy chief said currently there is no evidence to suspect an employee was involved, but the possibility has not been ruled out.
Leads for suspects are and have been developed and are still being investigated. Investigators believe the two burglaries are connected.
