URGENT NOTICE – Flood prone areas beware

The frequent rains over the past days have created a situation where flooding could occur in areas near major drainage bodies, such as the Pearl River.
Pearl River County Emergency Management Director Danny Manley said the homes near the Pearl River in Walkiah should be prepared. The river is currently at a stage where more rains, which are expected Friday night, could create a significant flooding situation.
If the rains come in as forecasted the flooding could occur this weekend, possibly Sunday.
Northern rain water coming south along water sheds and the recent opening of the Ross Barnett Resivoir in Jackson could add to the situation, Manley said.
Manley said his office will know more once the expected rains fall tonight. He asks anyone in that area, or other flood prone areas, who have things under their homes to pick them up and secure them.
