Three separate murder trials are scheduled for this month in Lowndes County Circuit Court.
On Feb. 17, Ida Doreen Weaver, 46, is scheduled for trial on capital murder charges in the stabbing death of her boyfriend, John Allen Bailey.
Authorities said the 54-year-old Bailey, of D’Iberville, was stabbed at the Ann Lee Motel in Columbus after an argument with Weaver on Nov. 14, 2006. Weaver was arrested about a week later in Mobile County, Ala. and returned to Mississippi.
In another case, James Newell, 49, of Vernon, Ala., is scheduled for trial Feb. 23 in the shooting death of 31-year-old Adrian Boyette. The shooting occurred in May at the Slab House bar in Caledonia.
Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies discovered Boyette, a Sulligent, Ala., resident, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest after authorities received a 911 call reporting shots fired in the area.
Newell, who is charged with murder, was arrested near Vernon, Ala., and returned to Mississippi.
Also on Feb. 23, Michael Shane Richardson, 27, of Columbus, is scheduled for trial on a capital murder charge in the September 2006 beating and robbery of 67-year-old Harvey J. Evans. Evans died four months later from blunt force trauma.
Authorities said Evans was beaten with a baseball bat.
