A Tunica County man has been sentenced to six months house arrest and fined $2,500 for shooting a bald eagle and cutting off its talons nearly a year ago.
The dead bird was found by a Tunica County farmer who owned the land where it was killed in November 2007.
Prosecutors say Joshua Lee Garrison of Dundee entered the plea Thursday in federal court in Oxford.
U.S. Attorney Jim Greenlee says Garrison also will serve on probation for two years after his release and he will lose his hunting and fishing privileges for two years.
Greenlee said federal officers confiscated the .270-caliber Remington rifle that Garrison used to kill the eagle.
