A former inmate of the Lamar County Jail has filed a $3 million lawsuit against the jail, alleging that officials physically tormented him during his 17-day stay at the facility.

In a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Hattiesburg, Yuri Calzadilla said jail officials physically abused him by kicking and hitting him repeatedly.

Calzadilla also alleged that a jail official “pulled (his) head back” while another “officer poured rubbing alcohol into” his eyes.

According to the complaint, Calzadilla said he was jailed after being arrested by a Lamar County deputy at the Hattiesburg/Purvis city line on November 30.

Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel said he was unaware of the lawsuit.
