A 59-year-old man will serve 20 years without parole for a crack cocaine conviction as a habitual offender.
Judge Jerry O. Terry imposed the sentence Monday after John Curtis Smith of Gulfport pleaded guilty to selling $40 worth of crack to an undercover police officer in Gulfport.
Prosecutors say Smith also had $40 worth of crack hidden in a hat he was wearing when the officer gave “a takedown signal” for his arrest on November 8, 2007.
