A man accused in the fatal shooting of a Biloxi convenience store owner was in stable condition Friday after being wounded during a chase with lawmen, authorities said.
Police Capt. John Miller said Jason Keller, who is in his 20s, was being treated at an area hospital.
Miller said Keller is charged with grand larceny and capital murder in the fatal shooting of Hat Nguyen, a 41-year-old mother of four. A customer discovered Nguyen’s body on Thursday behind the counter at Food Mart in Biloxi.
Miller said officers spotted Keller driving along U.S. 49 in Gulfport and Keller sped off when officers tried to pull him over.
The chase on Interstate 10 from Harrison County to Jackson County ended, Miller said, when police used road spikes to puncture the tires on Keller’s car. Keller stopped, hopped out and “became confrontational” with officers and was shot, Miller said.
