PRCC Sweeps Jones

Pearl River swept arch-rival Jones County in a pair of South Division basketball games Thursday.
The Lady Wildcats took a hard-fought 69-65 victory, while the Wildcats pounded the Bobcats 64-44.
PRCC’s women improved to 11-6 overall and 4-2 in division play, while its men are now 10-7 and 4-2. JCJC’s women dropped to 13-4 and 3-2, while its men fell to 3-13 and 1-4.
In women’s action, Pearl River point guard Nicole Lowe sank four foul shots in the final minute to snap a 65-65 stalemate to give PRCC the three-point victory.
Shiney Paul paced the Lady Wildcats with 17 points, including a six-for-six effort at the foul line while Lowe hit a career-high 15 and dished off five assists. Cristen Carter and Calla Daggons scored 11 each
In the men’s game, the Bobcats kept it close for most of the first half, but the Wildcats pulled off a 10-2 run in the final four minutes to lead 31-16 at the intermission and never looked back.
Wesley Jones paced the Wildcats with a game-high 21 points and grabbed 12 boards, while Jamarcus Jackson scored 12 and had seven rebounds. Chazz Hawkins of Picayune High scored seven points and had five steals.
PRCC eyes back-to-back division road games starting with East Central in Decatur Monday and Copiah-Lincoln in Wesson Thursday, Feb. 1. Tip off times are 6 p.m. (women) and 8 p.m. (men) for both dates
