NJROTC earns high marks

Picayune Memorial High School Navy JROTC Rifle Team continues to strive for excellence not only in NJROTC Area 8, but the entire nation. Picayune Navy JROTC Rifle Teams placed 2nd and 4th at the NJROTC Area 8 Rifle Championship, which was held in Anniston, Alabama. The Rifle team competed against the best 12 teams from Area 8, which consist of 50 schools from a five state region. The 2nd place Rifle team, consisted of Alex Cruz, Danielle Bear, Ashlyn Spiers and Kayla Phillips. The 4th place team consisted of Tyler Stockstill, Reagan Dedman, Chris Larson and Jacob Richey.
Cadets receiving individual awards were Danielle Bear, Alex Cruz and Jacob Richey. Out of 90 individual competitors, Danielle Bear finished 3rd overall.
The 2nd place team received a bid to the Navy/Marine Corp Nationals that was held this past weekend in Anniston, Aal.
Tyler Stockstill was Picayune’s lone Freshman to received a bid to compete in the individual competition. They competed against the top Navy and Marine Corp JROTC’s in the nation and placed 11th overall.
This is quite an accomplishment for a team that consist mainly of sophomores. Alex Cruz was the “Top Shot” for Picayune, scoring a personal best during the competition.
Great job representing the NJROTC, Picayune Memorial High School, and the entire Picayune community.
