Pearl River County Sheriff’s Deputies joined Pearl River Central High School students on Jan. 14 and 16 for interactive sessions as part of the school’s law enforcement classes. The deputies staged various traffic stop scenarios, ranging from minor seatbelt violations to emergency stops, providing students with firsthand experience in law enforcement procedures.
The hands-on exercises allowed students to view traffic stops from civilian and law enforcement perspectives. Participants learned how to position themselves during a halt, the types of questions officers ask in specific situations, and an overview of basic traffic laws and stop procedures.
“This was a great opportunity to share knowledge and experiences with students who may be considering careers in law enforcement,” the sheriff’s office said. “We are grateful to Pearl River Central High School for fostering this collaboration.”
The program aimed to educate students about real-world law enforcement practices while inspiring potential future deputies. Deputies praised the students’ engagement and the school’s commitment to offering practical, career-focused education.
