Mary Agnes Means Jones was born April 1, 1931 in Eutaw, Ala. to Eugene Means and Lou Etta Walker Means. She died peacefully in the company of her family on Nov. 20, 2024.
Mary Agnes married Luther T. Jones, Sr. on Sept. 5, 1955. Together they raised 14 children, eight sons and six daughters.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Luther T. Jones Sr.; parents, Eugene and Etta Means; two sons, Donald Ray Jones and James Jones; grandson, Joshua Means; sister, Eddie Bell Fleming; brother, James Means; four brothers-in-law, Manning Jones Sr., Charlie Jones, Brice Haynes Sr. and Willie Gilliam; four sisters-in-law, Valena Jones, Bessie Mae Gilliam, Kathryn Haynes, and Nancy Milsap
Left to cherish her memories and legacy are her sons, Kenneth (Vessie) Means, Luther Jones Jr., Anthony Jones, Luther L. “Bill” Jones, Teryon (Erica) Jones, and Brian (Toni) Jones; daughters, Beverly (Charles) Janet, Cynthia Stewart, Sylvia Dedeaux, Malisa (Kevin) Greenlee, and Karla Denham; daughter-in-law, Toni Fortenberry Jones; three sisters, Bessie Means, Alma Hayes and Lois Johnson; one sister-in-law, Ella Pearl Jones; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services to be held on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Weems Chapel United Methodist Church with public viewing from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Rev. Robert Pittman will officiate under the direction of Baylous Funeral Home. Interment at New Palestine Cemetery.
