Hunters, anglers, and citizens have a unique opportunity to benefit from a special holiday license sales promotion offered by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks. Jeremy Bass, the Marketing Director, revealed that the campaign is set to launch this month.
Bass explained, “We have collaborated to devise a Hunter Holiday Campaign that will unfold over the next few months. Our aim is to target both existing license holders and attract new ones through a recruitment and loyalty initiative.” He added, “Any individual purchasing a new license or renewing from November to January, and potentially February, will automatically be eligible for the Hunter’s Holiday Package drawing.”
Renewing license holders stand a chance to win a Winchester 20 Gauge Shotgun, a 75-quart cooler, and a $100 Van’s Sporting Goods gift certificate. On the other hand, new license holders have the opportunity to win a .22 rifle, a 75-quart cooler, and a $100 Van’s Sporting Goods gift certificate.

In the realm of license sales, Jason Thompson provided the October report during the recent commission meeting. While sales had experienced a decline in October, there was an upturn in November. Thompson emphasized that fluctuations in license sales are commonplace, as hunters typically make purchases based on their preferences rather than a set expiration date.
As of Fiscal Year 2024, MDWFP’s revenue stands at $4.8 million, with resident license sales contributing $2.8 million and nonresident license sales accounting for $2 million, including $1.6 million from Louisiana residents.
Thompson noted a $150,000 increase in revenue from deer permits compared to the previous year, largely attributed to a rise in non-resident licenses. Responding to a commissioner’s query about the new licensing system, Thompson assured, “We are actively engaged in weekly meetings regarding our new licensing system, and the anticipated go-live date is January 2025.”
