A poker run to benefit Hope Haven Children’s Advocacy Center is being held by Gurley and Associates Saturday.
Hope Haven advocates for the support of abused, neglected, foster or at risk children in the county and provides programs for them in the community, said event organizer Kristine Gurley. Donations for the event will buy beds or car seats, Gurley said.
“My husband and I have participated and supported Hope Haven for about 15 years or more,” Gurley said. “Being former foster parents, Hope Haven helped us in our time and it really is even more near and dear to our hearts now.”
The poker run will feature a bus that participants can board at the Picayune Walmart for $15 at 9:15 a.m., Gurley said. The bus will transport participants to the different locations in the run so they can collect cards for their poker hand. Stops include, The Red Zone, Kiln VFW, Broke Spoke, Dempsey’s Steak and Seafood, Uncle Joe’s Pizza and Wings and Grog’s Bar. Each bus stop will last about 45 minutes, so riders will have the opportunity to buy food and drinks, purchase raffle tickets or participate in a silent auction, Gurley said.
Participants can also register at The Red Zone at 9:30 a.m. and drive their jeeps, cars or ride motorcycles to the stops to collect their poker hand, Gurley said. The buy in for a hand is $20, Gurley said.
The run will end at The Red Zone at 4 p.m. where there will be food and live music for all participants, Gurley said. The event is family friendly. Bus tickets can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce. For more information people can contact Gurley at 228-493-2028 or 601-909-3041.
