The Kiwanis Club of Poplarville will be hosting an inaugural pancake breakfast on August 31 to raise money to support children in the community.
Kiwanis Chairman Crisper Stanford said the Kiwanis Club is dedicated to helping children, and since the club is relatively new to the Poplarville area, members are looking for opportunities to raise funds that will help support the club’s future initiatives.
On August 3, the Club held its first event, a school uniform giveaway to benefit children attending the Poplarville School District. Its goal was to provide uniforms to families in need, Stanford said.
Uniforms for the event were purchased by the club and donated by the community. Through that effort, the club was able to provide about 1,000 uniforms to those in need, he said.
Stanford said the benefit was a way for the community to get to know members of the Poplarville Kiwanis Club. Stanford said the positive feedback encouraged the club to further their efforts within in the community.
He said members of the Kiwanis Club of Picayune helped the Poplarville chapter organize the Pancake Breakfast. Their guidance was beneficial considering its one of their largest annual fundraising initiatives and the Poplarville Kiwanis is looking forward to working hand in hand with the Picayune chapter, Stanford said.
The Pancake Breakfast will be held at the National Guard Armory, located at 100 Rodeo St., Poplarville, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tickets are $5 each.
