Fundraisers to benefit nonprofit Solace Foundation

The Solace Foundation will be hosting two fundraisers in the coming months to raise money for hospice patients in need.
Solace Hospice marketer Melinda Carli said the non-profit was originally created to cover expenses that a patient’s insurance either doesn’t cover, or stopped covering. For instance, Carli said if a patient needs a ramp built to the front door or a new air conditioning unit in their home, the foundation will install one for them. She said the foundation will even assist with the purchase of everyday items such as groceries and medication.
To continue their efforts, the Foundation will be holding two fundraisers, one from now until August, and one in November, Carli said.
Until August 3, the Foundation will be selling raffle tickets for seats for two at the first New Orleans Saints game of the season. Carli said the game will be on August 17 and the seats will be Bunker Club sideline seats. Raffle tickets will be sold for $10 a piece or $15 for two.
The raffle will be held at around noon on August 5. Those interested can watch the raffle live on the Foundation’s Facebook page. Carli said if anyone is interested in purchasing a ticket, they can come to the office between Monday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., they can call and purchase one from an employee or they can request tickets by mail.
The second event the Foundation will be holding is a “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” on November 10 at Poplarville’s City Park. The purpose of the event is three-fold: to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Foundation, to raise money for the Solace Foundation and to pay respect to veterans.
Since the event will be held one day before Veterans Day, it will begin at 9 a.m. with an honorary ceremony. Once the ceremony has concluded, a walk will take place around City Park. Carli said all proceeds from the walk will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
During the event, food vendors, craft booths and live music will be present. Carli said the festivities are open to anyone – whether they participated in the walk or not. She said there will be various contests at the event, including a cutest booth contest, a cutest pet contest and a contest to see which group raised the most money in the walk.
Carli said if anyone wants to set up a booth, the cost is $50 per slot. She said all proceeds from booth fees will fund the Solace Foundation. She said there is no deadline to apply for a spot.
