The Senior Center of South Pearl River County is hosting a free educational Medicare workshop for senior citizens in the community.
The workshop will be held July 3 at 10:30 a.m. at the center and will include a presentation entitled “Medicare 101,” presented by Humana Health Insurance sales agent Patrick Davis of the Biloxi office.
Mitch Lubitz, corporate communications lead at Humana, said the workshop will provide senior citizens with important details and an in-depth explanation into the various Medicare options, when they can enroll and whether they are eligible for Medicare.
“The workshop will cover the in’s and out’s of Medicare and help them prepare for enrollment season,” Lubitz said.
Generally, senior citizens have questions pertaining to the benefits under each plan, the health care providers available under the plans and a breakdown of the costs involved under each plan.
Each fall, Medicare offers the opportunity for recipients to review their benefits and insurance coverage for the coming year. They can also compare Medicare plans available in the area to determine if they want to stay with their current plan or choose a new medical or prescription drug plan.
The Medicare annual enrollment period starts Oct. 15 and runs through Dec. 7. Coverage takes effect Jan 1, 2019, Lubitz said via email correspondence.
