Shiver Shack has unique menu

Shiver Shack in Picayune is offering unique items, some of which are seasonal.
Customers can find snowballs, seafood nachos and ice cream snowball combinations.
Owner Kaitlyn Bourgeois said the idea to open the business came to her just before the birth of her son while considering a job that would allow her to care for her child.
One of the unique seasonal items on the menu are the pineapple and watermelon snowballs.
What makes them unique is the drinks are prepared and served in real pineapple and watermelon.
The exotic drinks are only served from February until May because that’s when the fruit is in season.
Her roots in New Orleans also brought about crawfish and shrimp nachos. Those are also offered during the respective seasons.
Customers can also find Dippin’ Dots, snowballs with an ice cream loaded cone on top, and even a snowball with a whole pickle inside. Half of the pickle is left as is, while the other half is sliced and arranged around the rim of the cup.
Bourgeois said Shiver Shack also offers her unique cream snowball recipes of chocolate wedding cake and ice cream flavors.
Even though the Picayune location did not open until February of this year, Bourgeois said she operated a Gulfport location prior to moving back to Picayune.
Shiver Shack will be open all year long, offering items on the menu to suit the season.
In the near future she plans to add funnel cakes, beignets, coffee based drinks, pizza and wings.
“Our plan is to add a new item to the menu once a month,” Bourgeois said.
Once a non-seasonal item is added to the menu, Bourgeois plans to keep it there.
One thing her customers may notice is the snowballs do not have a cap of ice. That’s because Shiver Shack uses a “softer ice” that tends to fall in a customer’s lap if it is filled above the cup’s rim, Bourgeois said.
Shiver Shack is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.
Bourgeois said the business employs six people full time and the business can be reached by calling 228-669-5572.
